Experienced Breeders
GEMMS Kennels is kind of a non-truth. We are not really a kennel at all. Our pets are in the house with us and NEVER go in a kennel.
Because we don’t have a barn full of dogs, and don’t believe dogs should be raised in that manner, some of our dogs live with family and family friends. Being loved and being pets are their first priorities.
We are a small home based breeder previously located in Minnesota and currently Sioux City, Iowa. We had been raising Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers since 1988 and fell in love with the Tibetan Terriers (TTs) in the late 1990's. We adopted our first Tibetan Terrier Sophie into our home in the fall of 2000. Our first Affenpinscher joined us in 2017 and we produced enough champions by 2022 to earn our Breeder of Merit status in Affenpinschers!
Sophie was a great girl and a real change from the Wheatens. We waited to show her and she finished her Championship in the fall of 2003. One of our favorite wins was a Best of Breed win over several champions by what were considered top breeders back then.
Sophie retired her reign when she moved to North Dakota to live with my sister, her daughters and granddaughters have gone on to produce some of the best TTs ever and Sophie’s offspring have earned many titles!

Before we breed we ensure that all of our dogs have the appropriate health checks and are in great shape.

Prior to leaving our home, all puppies will have been vet checked, shots given, dew claws removed and BAER (hearing) tested (Tibetan Terriers) as well as health tested Affenpinschers! Being an AKC Breeder of Merit requires us to follow health testing guidelines as well as produce champions.
